What

In celebration of Lake Union Crew's 10th Anniversary, a fundraising effort is being launched to buy 14 new ergs, 2 new erg monitors, and update the tank to rower standards (as opposed to Viking).

Rome built Lake Union Crew in part to give a home to the rowing team she helped found for Holy Names Academy, her high school alma mater. Ultimately, she built it to share her vision of a community and foster a spirit that could be borne of such a group.

Who

Lake Union Crew is home to many programs. This diversity is part of the appeal and strength of LUC. This effort benefits every program at the boathouse – including learn-to-row, juniors, masters, and HNA. Notification of this drive is being sent to the LUC membership, HNA athletes and parents, as well as friends of LUC, HNA and HNA alumnae. Our membership and support network is substantial. Roar!

Why

For 10 years, the ergs and tanks have served virtually every member of LUC and HNA. Incrementally, most other equipment has been replaced, but not the ergs or tank.

Retrofitting the tanks will raise the standards from Viking to world-class training (the only tank in the northwest). While the old ergs have been great, the new ergs will be even better, helping to usher in the next decade at LUC.

From the beginning, Lake Union Crew has fostered teamwork through personal discovery and individual contributions. To commemorate this community of inspiration and perpetuate its success, we're giving back- to Rome, and to each and every member of the LUC/HNA family.

How

This is a three part effort:

1. Retrofitting the tank to appropriate training standards.
2. Purchasing 14 new Concept II Model D ergs with Model E monitors.
3. Likely selling many if not all of the existing Model C ergs.

A PayPal account has been established for this particular purpose. Many forms of payment are accepted, including credit cards. Creative challenges are encouraged and some are already underway, including a naming rights for the new ergs and a challenge donation worth up to $1,000.

All money raised will be put towards these efforts. Check back often for the updates on the account balance.

When

The launch of this site on July 5th (again, a total secret from Rome) marks the official beginning of the ergs and tank fundraiser (ETF).
