LUC & HNA 2007 Erg/Tank Fundraiser
Standard top-of-page notice... remember - this is a secret from Rome and thanks for your help in keeping it that way!
What's This All About?
In celebration of Lake Union Crew's 10th Anniversary, this fundraising effort is being launched to buy 14 new ergs and update the tank to rower standards.
Rome Ventura built Lake Union Crew in part to give a home to the rowing team she helped found for Holy Names Academy, her high school alma mater. Ultimately, she built it to share her vision of a community and foster a spirit that could be borne of such a group.
Lake Union Crew is a labor of love for Rome. She gives of her heart and spirit, and as we approach our 10-year anniversary, it is an excellent time to give back.
A fundraiser of this magnitude has never before happened at Lake Union Crew. Over the years various groups have pitched in to help fund boats and oars, but we have never before had a club-wide and HNA-wide fundraiser. Furthermore, we've never had a fundraiser that benefits the entire club - this is an exciting time!
Everybody who rows at LUC uses the ergs and most people use them nearly every day they row. Over the course of 10 years we've estimated nearly 700 million meters have been rowed on our ergs - that's nearly to the moon and back, or over 17 times around the world. Whew - that's a lot of meters! Our ergs are well maintained and well-loved, but after 10 years it is time to upgrade to new ergs with new capabilities to maintain our training and competitive edge.
And while we're on the subject of training, the tank is used primarily by our Learn To Row program, and occasionally by other programs when the weather is bad or if a specific technique is being addressed. However, with a retrofit the tank would be a superb training tool for all programs. See the What We're Funding section of the How page for a list of proposed retrofit changes.
