Junior program
Young athletes in the Pacific Northwest have the unique opportunity to choose rowing as a sport. Lake Union Crew offers a renowned, competitive junior program for experienced and novice rowers ages 12-18. The focus of the program is to develop boat speed and technical savvy in both sweep and scull boats with individualized coaching and training that is not found in the average junior program.
LUC limits the program to 40 rowers in order to provide the quality of training that has made the junior program the medal winning team that it is. We understand the need for balance in our juniors’ lives between academics, social life, and athletics. Practices are designed to help with this balance as well as provide the time necessary to create competitive, strong rowers.
Who is eligible
The Junior Program is designed for athletes who have experience rowing as well as novices. LUC offers the opportunity for young athletes to gain experience through our summer camps or private lessons.
Fall Season and Schedule
Program Descriptions
The fall rowing season is a time when experienced rowers build endurance and hone their technique in preparation for spring racing. It is also a time for brand new rowers, novices, to learn the fundamentals of the sport and the dedication it takes to excel. As LUC is committed to providing opportunities to participate for all levels, we offer two fall program options. The Competitive Program is designed for returning experienced and novice rowers who are committed to the sport and understand that it takes a team to be successful. This group practices 5 days a week in order to get maximum time on the water and cross-training opportunities. Participation in applicable fall regattas is expected. The Development Program practices 3 times per week and is appropriate for those rowers who are still feeling out the sport or who are balancing multiple commitments. This is a great way to be exposed to rowing and discover if it could be your sport! The Development Program does not participate in the fall regattas. If you have any question about which program is best for you, please contact us.
